A total of 42 students in Grimstad did not return home to their families for Christmas. The municipality is treating them to Christmas dinner.

“This was cozy, a nice gesture as I can not go home to the family in Nepal because of corona,” Dipendi Subedi told the newspaper Varden.

The majority of the 42 students at the University of Agder in Grimstad who aren’t returning home for Christmas are unable to travel due to corona. The municipality and volunteers decided to make their holidays a bit nicer for the second corona Christmas in a row.

“My parents are old, so then it’s better that I’m here. And after two years in Norway, I also like Norwegian Christmas traditions,” Giampaolo Toro from Italy said. He will get both Christmas dinner and New Year’s dinner from Grimstad’s communal kitchen.

“I do this little extra job with pleasure,” head of the kitchen service, Harald Birkenes, told the newspaper.
