A man in his 40s from Haugalandet is charged with having infected his wife with HIV after lying to her about his own infection.

The man is said to have had unprotected sex with his then-wife several times in 2013 without informing her that he was HIV-infected, the newspaper Haugesund’s Avis writes.

It was not until 2014 that he told his wife that he was HIV-infected, according to the indictment.

But later that year, according to the indictment, he is said to have told his wife that he had recovered and that precautions against infection during intercourse were no longer necessary.

The man is accused of violating section 237a of the Criminal Code, which deals with “gross transmission of infection.” The related penalty is six years in prison.

Haugaland and Sunnhordland District Court has set aside three days for the processing of the case, which is scheduled for December.
