Health director Guldvog: The Norwegian health service can withstand at least a doubling in the number of admitted corona patients
On Thursday, a record number of 402 corona patients were admitted to Norwegian hospitals. However, health director Bjørn Guldvog is not worried and says the health service can tolerate at least twice as much.
“I think we can probably (tolerate) double that number. And still, I would not be very worried. It is possible we can tolerate more than that even without worrying too much,” Guldvog told the newspaper Aftenposten.
The number of admitted corona patients surpassed 400 on Thursday for the first time, an increase of 25 patients from the day before. But only 44 of them are in intensive care.
Guldvog is not worried because the omicron variant causes less serious illness. According to Aftenposten, the number of admitted corona patients with corona as the main cause of hospitalization is increasing overall, while the number of intensive care patients and corona deaths is declining.
