High electricity prices have led to more people heating their living spaces through heating with wood in Oslo. In a new report, the Municipality states that the practice has increased air pollution in the city.

“Previously, the exhaust from cars was the biggest problem by far. Emissions from wood burning are now emerging as one of the biggest problems,” City Councilor for the Environment and Transport Sirin Stav (MDG) told the newspaper Dagsavisen.

She added that the Municipality is working on mapping the emissions from wood burning to make it easier to find and implement targeted measures.

In December, the health authorities’ air quality thresholds in Oslo were exceeded at all measuring stations for about 20 to 50% of the time, according to the report.
