At least 20 employees at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg have been diagnosed with COVID-19 after a staff party.

A total of 400 employees from one of the hospital’s departments were gathered two weeks ago at a seminar at a hotel in Gothenburg.

Sweden’s state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell gave a speech at the seminar, which ended with a party in the evening.

In the days after the party, more and more people in the ward became ill, and PCR tests showed that about 30 people were infected with the coronavirus. Around 20 of them attended the party.

“A lot of people were looking forward to this seminar. When the day came, we chose to implement it,” department head Peter Dahm told the newspaper Göteborgs-Posten.

The department is now considering introducing a requirement for visors and face masks even in the staff rooms.
