Hunter found dead at avalanche site in Trondheim

After an extensive search operation in the aftermath of an avalanche at Vassfjellet in Trondheim, a hunter has been found dead.

The search operation was launched at 7:00 PM on Saturday after a hunter did not return home in the afternoon.

According to the newspaper Adresseavisen, the man was found at an altitude of about 600 meters on the southwest side of Vassfjellet.

“The Air ambulance reports that the avalanche that struck the hunter is 80 to 100 meters wide. The man was found at 10:16 PM by one of the police dogs,” operations manager Rune Brandmo in Trøndelag Police District said.

Major search effort

Both police and volunteers participated in the search, which included dogs, drones, and the Air ambulance. 

According to Adresseavisen, two avalanches occurred in the area on Saturday night. One of them was related to the search operation.

The man’s dog survived and was found walking near the avalanche site, VG writes.
