As a result of successfully tackling the coronavirus pandemic and speeding up the vaccination, all corona restrictions in Iceland will be lifted on Saturday, the country’s Minister of Health announced.

It has been over a week since Iceland registered a case of infection, and almost 90% of those over 16 have received at least one vaccine dose.

“After 15 months, Icelanders can finally avoid dealing with face masks, social distancing, and other measures,” Minister of Health Svandis Svavarsdottir announced at a press conference on Friday.

Iceland has long had the lowest infection pressure in Europe and has vaccinated its people faster than any other EEA country.
