The Norwegian forces in Iraq continue to be on high readiness after the US killed an Iranian general staying in Iraq night to Friday night.

– “The local preparedness for the Norwegian forces has been raised following the attack on the US embassy on New Year’s Eve. Emergency preparedness will continue to be increased,” says spokesman Brynjar Stordal at the Norwegian Armed Forces’ operational headquarters to NTB.

He adds that the Armed Forces is continuously assessing the level of preparedness, but that it has not yet been relevant to evacuate the Norwegian soldiers.

There are about 70 Norwegian soldiers in the Al-Asad base in the troubled Anbar province west of Iraq. The Norwegian force will serve there until the end of 2020.
