Increased tourism in Norway led to a spike in the number of overnight stays in December

More than 1 million overnight stays were registered at Norwegian hotels in December 2021. The number of foreign overnight stays increased significantly.

A total of 1.3 million overnight stays was registered by commercial actors in December 2021, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB). That is an increase of 50% from the previous year.

Foreign overnight stays increased a lot. Compared with December 2020, the number increased by 244%, to 320,000 overnight stays. 

Furthermore, foreign overnight stays at cabins increased by 540% in December 2021.
