An 18 year old man was placed under arrest Saturday, June 16th; charged with raping a girl of undeclared age. The purported attack apparently took place at a school sponsored event in Jæren; Rogaland county.
Stavanger daily newspaper Aftenbladet states that the alleged assault occurred earlier last week and that police were immediately notified after the incident.
SCHOOLYARD ATTACK
Southwest police district prosecuting attorney Mads Lerum spoke to Aftenbladet, saying “I can confirm that we have a young man who’s been charged with the crime of committing rape. The alleged attack seems to have been connected with
a school function.”
Police report that the girl was treated at the rape crisis center before release.
The accused defendant denies that any violence and/or sexual assault took place.
STRONG DENIAL
Defense lawyer Anne Kroken gave statement of her client’s position, saying “He’s explained how his encounter with the supposed victim unfolded that evening, giving a detailed explanation of what (he states) happened. He strongly denies performing any criminal offense.”
No further details were available.
Within Rogaland, Jæren doesn’t generally refer to the large towns of Stavanger or Sandnes, but rather refers to the more rural areas to the south.
