Joe Biden has been sworn in as the 46th President of the United States on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.

78-year-old Democrat Joe Biden has been inaugurated as the United States’ new president.

Biden began his inaugural speech by commenting on the riots in Washington D.C. two weeks earlier.

“This is the day of democracy… We have again learned that democracy is fragile, but democracy has won,” Biden said.

He further stressed the importance of standing up to hatred, lawlessness, racism, and domestic terrorism.

Standing up to hate

“We must stand up to this, and we will win. We must overcome these challenges. We will once again make the United States a leading force for good in the world,” Biden noted.

He also thanked former Presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush, who were present at the ceremony.

“I thank my predecessors from both parties in the deepest,” he said as he turned to them.

Biden is the oldest American ever to take over the presidency of the United States.

Biden moves into the White House at a time when the country is going through an economic crisis and registering 4,000 corona-related deaths per day.
