Kindergarten strike in Oslo averted

The planned strike of 1,600 members of the Norwegian Union of Municipal and General Employees (Fagforbundet) - including many kindergarten employees - in Oslo municipality has been averted.

A wage settlement between the Municipal Employees’ Main Association (KAH) and the City of Oslo has been achieved, in line with the state settlement.

All Oslo municipality employees are guaranteed real wage growth with a supplement of 0.9%, but not less than NOK 4,400, with effect from May 1 this year.

In the mediation, Fagforbundet managed to get its main demand approved – to secure the right to negotiate a pension.

“In the long run, this is extremely important to secure the pension rights for our members,” leader Roger Dehlin in Oslo Fagforbundet noted.
