From 2021, all kindergartens will be required to survey the Norwegian knowledge of the children. Today, this is only done in one of three kindergartens.

– “We know that every fall, six-year-olds start school without being able to speak and understand Norwegian well enough. For these children, the start of school will be extra tough,” says Minister of Knowledge and Integration Trine Skei Grande (V).

– “Therefore, we will introduce a duty for the municipalities to assess the Norwegian knowledge of all children before school starts,” she says.

The duty will apply from autumn 2021, and the measure is a follow-up to the Granavolden platform.
