Eight Syrian asylum seekers who have been staying in a church  in Rypefjord in Hammerfest since just before Christmas have now left the church and traveled to the reception center in the town.
This means there are no more asylum seekers in Norwegian churches, according to the newspaper Vårt Land.
The two Christian families sought church asylum in Rypefjord church in the middle of December when they did not get their asylum applications processed in Norway. They feared being sent back to Russia.
Now UNE has announced that the applications will be processed after all.
In January, three Syrians got church asylum in Kirkenes, but returned  to the reception center after a few days.
