Last year, 30 men and one woman lost their lives while at work, according to preliminary figures from the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority.

“The number of work-related deaths in the last five years has been at a historically low level, but now we, unfortunately, see an increasing tendency again,” director Trude Vollheim in the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority warned in a press release.

Most deaths have been registered in the construction industry, the transport and storage industry, and agriculture.

In the last five years, an average of 27 work-related deaths have been registered per year, while the average for the last ten years is 35 deaths.

Vollheim emphasizes that it should be safe to go to work in Norway and says that serious occupational accidents should be prevented.

“Often, simple measures are needed to prevent people from being injured or losing their lives at work, but it requires working on safety at all levels every single day. Serious accidents in the workplace can and should be prevented,” she noted.
