A landslide and a rockslide have blocked the E16 in Vang in Valdres. The road is closed, and a detour is recommended via national road 52 Hemsedalsfjellet.

Rocks and soil have blocked the road in two places on the E16 on the west side of the lake Vangsmjøse by Øye. Furthermore, a gutter, which lets through the water under the road, has collapsed.

The landslide and the rockslide injured no people, the Innlandet Police District announced.

The E16 through Valdres is a very busy junction between Eastern Norway and Western Norway. The affected road will probably be closed for at least 24 hours. In the worst case, it will take even longer, the police and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration inform.

“According to reports from the contractor, the landslide is 40-50 meters wide. There are large amounts of soil and rock masses in the road, and the contractor estimates that the road will be closed for at least 24 hours,” traffic operator Hilde Bjørnstad at Vegtrafikksentralen Øst said.

A geologist will enter the landslide area and carry out an inspection as soon as possible.
