After a propane leak from an industrial building in Senja Municipality, the emergency services have started the evacuation protocol. At the same time, a safety zone of one kilometer has been created.

The leak occurred on Ferroveien 10 in Finnfjord, just over six kilometers east of Finnsnes center.

“We have a propane leak that we are trying to control,” Arnstein Smevik in Senja fire and rescue services told news bureau NTB.

There is talk of 4,000 liters of propane leaking from the industrial building, operations manager Beate Helberg in Troms Police District told newspaper VG.

According to the police, it is a small industrial building that is located in close proximity to the Finnfjord smelter, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reports. The owner of the building in question contacted the police.

The fire service is working to close the road to Sørreisa. It is not known how many people have been evacuated.
