Lightning and thunder created major problems in eastern Norway

Large parts of Sørumsand and Blaker lost power when parts of eastern Norway was hit by thunder and lightning on Tuesday night.

All shops at Sørumsand had to close because of power outages after the skies opened with stormy rain, hail and lightning, according to Romerike Blad.
Several houses in Sørum got water leaks, and lightning struck a house in Ulvik road at Aurskog. There were no reports of any serious incidents. In Blaker there was flooding in several places and Haglund road in the same area was closed due to landslides.

– There have been very many lightning strikes in the area, said duty meteorologist Ingrid Bentsen at the Meteorological Institute.
The fire services in Vestfold also reported that lightning had struck the transformer station in Våle in Re municipality, they announced on Twitter. Lightning strike caused the cooling oil of the transformer to boil, leading to smoke but no fire.

Meteorological Department predicted “tumultous thunder in many places in the eastern mountains and Trøndelag on Tuesday night.” The areas around Oslo, Hamar, Lillehammer and Kongsvinger were marked as red zones by the meteorologists.
