Lillehammer Municipality has cut NOK 74 million in this year’s operating budget. Now, it cannot afford to change light bulbs in the street lights.

The Municipality has used up all the money set aside in the budget to replace light bulbs, head of roads and traffic Truls Hansen in Lillehammer Municipality told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

Now, light bulbs are only replaced when there are longer dark stretches on roads with a lot of traffic.

The Municipality has cut NOK 74 million in the operating budget this year. It also tried to save power by turning off the street lights on May 1, but after protests from residents, the lights were turned on after one week.

After NRK and local media covered the street lamp case, Mayor Ingunn Trosholmen said that the local authorities would look at the budget again.
