Two large international studies showed that the loss of the sense of smell is the surest symptom of being infected with the coronavirus.

The studies are based on responses from 4,500 participants from a number of countries, according to Videnskab.dk.

“The risk of you having COVID-19 in the event of a sudden loss of the sense of smell is so great that you should consider yourself infected until proven otherwise,” doctor Alexander Wieck Fjældstad at Aarhus University said.

In addition to the sense of smell, many corona patients also lose the sense of taste.

Studies show that half of the patients don’t regain their sense of smell even 40 days after the disease.
