Lysbakken: It’s embarrassing that Norway didn’t want to share vaccine patents with the world

The Socialist Left Party’s (SV) leader Audun Lysbakken says it is fantastic that the USA is now ready to waive the patent protection for corona vaccines. He believes Norway played an embarrassing role in the case.

Norway leads the TRIPS Council in the World Trade Organization (WTO). It has been one of the countries that have voted against developing countries’ desire for the vaccine patent to be waived.

“It is fantastic that the USA is turning around and wants to support the sharing of the vaccine recipes with poor countries,” SV leader Audun Lysbakken said, adding that this could lead to developing countries producing more vaccines themselves.

“Norway has played an embarrassing role in this case. The government has sided with the pharmaceutical companies instead of supporting developing countries,” Lysbakken said.

  1. Well, it’s Norway’s right to earn MORE!! The dough is a powerful thing! Nothing wrong with that! America will earn trillions of dough anyway from BioNTech/Pfizer!
