Major storms hit Northern Norway: Roads closed, risk of avalanches, danger warnings issued

Large parts of the road network in Nordland, Troms, and Finnmark have been closed, as well as one school. 

From Sunday to Tuesday, storms are expected in the southeast, with locally powerful gusts of 35-40 meters per second, the Meteorological Institute warns. 

The forecast applies to northern Troms and the coastal and fjord areas in western Finnmark.

There is also a significant risk of avalanches, an orange danger warning for strong icing on ships, and several yellow danger warnings in the rest of the region.

Roads closed, ferries canceled

At 6 o’clock, Vegtrafikksentralen nord wrote that large parts of the road network in Nordland, Troms, and Finnmark are closed. 

According to 175.no, many roads in Northern Norway were still closed at 8:30 AM. According to iTromsø, several ferries have also been canceled. 

Berlevåg school in Finnmark will be closed on Monday. It is planning home school for its 60-70 students.
