A 29-year-old man accused of aggravated sexual assault against two underage girls in Trysil has been arrested in Amsterdam after a year on the run.

According to Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK), two police officers traveled from Trysil to Amsterdam on Wednesday this week and arrested him.

The 29-year-old will now be in custody for eight weeks.

He was set to appear in Sør-Østerdal District Court in the autumn of 2019.

“The abuse of one of the girls is defined as rape. Both children are under 14 years old”, police inspector Henning Klauseie in the Innlandet police district told NRK.

The man is said to have been in the circle of friends of both girls, but they are not related.

One girl was ten years old when the first assault took place, according to the indictment.

The abuses are said to have taken place in 2016 and 2017.

The 29-year-old’s defender, lawyer Helge Hartz, told NRK that the accused consented to the custody, but that he does not know how the man will react to the indictment.

He has not previously pleaded guilty.

Klauseie says the trial is scheduled to start during the autumn.
