Man accused of trying to kill his wife on the street in Drammen

A man in his 30s has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed on the street in Drammen in 2019. The woman was living in a crisis shelter when she was stabbed.

According to the indictment, the woman was stabbed several times and suffered injuries to her head, chest, abdomen, arms, and legs during the incident in Tollbugata in the center of Drammen at around 3:00 PM on November 20, 2019.

The man was stopped by a random passerby. The woman was sent to the hospital and survived the attack.

The man and the woman were married, and the man is also accused of having abused and threatened the woman repeatedly from 2013 until the stabbing attack. 

History of abuse

Among other things, he threatened to kill the woman and her family, according to the indictment. 

He is also said to have restricted his wife’s access to the telephone and bank card and to have thrown his wife out of the home and refused to let her in again. He also locked her in a room.

When the woman was attacked with a knife, she was living in a shelter.

The man is also accused of abusing his two children, as they were witnesses to his abuse of the mother.

The case against the man starts in Drammen District Court on April 7.
