A man in his 60s lost his life in a collision on county road 57 at Lindås in Alver Municipality in Nordhordland on Saturday night. One man has been arrested.

The police were notified of the incident after passers-by found a lifeless man lying by the road.

“We moved out and found a man lying by the roadway. He was hit by a car,” operations manager Eivind Hellesund in the Western Police District told news bureau NTB.

A man has been arrested and will be questioned during the day, the police stated just before 8:30 AM.

Parts of the deceased’s immediate family have been notified of the incident.

Fylkesvei 57 is closed just north of the exit to Lindås center and will, according to the police, be closed for several hours until the crime scene work is completed.

“Keeping all possibilities open”

“This happened along a darkened country road. We’re keeping all possibilities open,” the operations manager said before the arrest.

After some investigation, the police came into contact with the owner of a larger vehicle that may have run over the man.

It has not been clarified who drove the car or whether the driver was aware that someone had been hit.

It is not known if the owner of the vehicle is the man who was arrested.
