A 20-year-old man has been remanded in custody for two weeks after the police charged him with arson aimed at an apartment building in Torshov in Oslo.

The fire in the attic of the apartment building broke out on Tuesday night. Ten people had to be evacuated and get shelter from the Municipality, the newspaper Sagene Avis writes.

According to a verdict from the Oslo District Court on Wednesday, the police agree that there is good reason to suspect the 20-year-old of being responsible for the fire. The district court imprisoned the man for two weeks.

The accused said he was in the toilet in his apartment, but the court shares the police’s view and writes that it is “more likely that the accused caused the fire.” A witness allegedly saw the accused.

The 20-year-old’s defender, lawyer Henrik Boehlke, told Sagene Avis that his client denies criminal guilt and believes the police have no basis for the suspicion against him.
