A man has been confirmed dead in connection with excavation work at a private address in Heidal in Gudbrandsdal.

The Innlandet police informed the public about the accident at 9:43 PM on Friday.

Operations Manager Sidsel Svarstad in the Innlandet Police District told news bureau NTB that the man operated a mini-excavator and that the vehicle overturned.

Attempts were made to revive the man on-site, but his life could not be saved, Svarstad said.

Svarstad says the excavation work took place under private auspices. The Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority has not been notified of the case. Police conducted investigations at the scene on Friday and spoke to witnesses.

“A tragic accident”

“The course of events is fairly clear. This is simply a tragic accident,” the operations manager said.

The accident happened at 6:30 PM. The police notified the man’s relatives before they went public with information about the case.

“The Municipality’s crisis team is following up with the relatives. The police are conducting investigations on the spot to clarify the cause of the accident,” the Innlandet police district reported.
