A 69-year-old man has been found dead in Lurøy Municipality after a rescue operation that was launched as a result of a leisure boat that was found capsized on Tuesday.

HRS Nord-Norge announced the information on Twitter. Rune Danielsen told NTB that they were notified of the case via the police in Nordland a little before 11 o’clock after a passer-by saw a capsized boat in the Kvina area in Lurøy.

“We started the rescue operation after we couldn’t get in touch with the owner of the boat,” Danielsen said.

He confirmed that the dead person was the boat’s owner and that the man was found on the shore a little before noon. Relatives have been notified.

“The police are on the scene. They are conducting crime scene investigations,” he added.
