A man in his late 30s has been arrested in Croatia and charged with the murder of Muhammad Shahzad Aslam at Lindeberg in Oslo in 2015.

Police attorney Ingvild Myrvold in the Oslo Police District told news bureau NTB that the case is now in a new phase.

“We have prepared a plan for further investigation, which will be broad and thorough. I can not comment on anything more due to the risk of evidence being lost in the case,” she said.

Breakthrough

Since the murder took place, several people have been charged in the case. Myrvold says that only one person has been arrested and charged in the case as of today.

“Only one person has been arrested. We have no new information about the two people who were previously charged and who had the cases against them dropped,” she told NTB.

The arrested man was internationally wanted. He was extradited to Norway on Friday, July 23, the Oslo Police District reported on Monday afternoon.

The police stated that they regard the arrest as a breakthrough in the case.

Detained for four weeks

The man was remanded in custody for four weeks in Oslo District Court on Saturday. The imprisonment is justified by the risk of evidence being lost, among other things.

“I have no comment at the present time,” the accused’s defense counsel, lawyer Cecilie Nakstad, wrote in a text message to NTB.

Norwegian-Pakistani Muhammad Shahzad Aslam was found dead in a parking lot at Lindeberg school in Oslo on April 11, 2015. Aslam was sentenced to eight years in prison in 1997 for three attempted murders.
