A man in his 30s has been sentenced in Sør-Rogaland District Court to two years and three months in prison in relation to a fire in a block of flats at Eiganes in Stavanger in May 2021.

The man has confessed to setting fire to his apartment on the eighth floor of the apartment block on May 31 last year, the newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad writes.

He was intoxicated when he set fire to the apartment. He used paper and flammable liquid. He then notified several neighbors of the fire.

The block has 54 housing units, and 51 people had to be evacuated as a result of the fire.

The man must also pay in excess of NOK 68,000 in compensation to an insurance company and NOK 4,000 in compensation to a neighbor.

No residents were injured in the fire, but a person from the fire service was transported to the hospital after the incident. He was not seriously injured.
