A man is receiving treatment for methanol poisoning at Ullevål hospital in Oslo. The condition of the person is serious but stable.

“The incident took place in the last 24 hours,” press official at Oslo University Hospital Anders Bayer told news bureau NTB.

The hospital warns that there may be potentially dangerous alcohol in circulation.

“If you have drunk alcohol of unknown origin and suffered symptoms in the form of wheezing, visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or chest pain the following day, you should see a doctor,” Bayer added.

So far, the police could not confirm whether methanol was in circulation, crime scene manager of the Oslo police district Stian Strømsøy Holm told NTB.

“So far, we are only aware of one case,” he said.

While the police are aware of the poisoning in Oslo, the origin of the methanol is unknown.

“We are in the process of investigation,” Holm concluded.
