In order to deal with the sharp increase in infection, Tromsø is introducing requirements for face masks, home office, and table service at restaurants.

The face mask requirement will apply to all indoor places where people can’t keep their distance from others, such as shops, common areas in shopping centers, public transport, taxis, and restaurants when they are not sitting.

New requirements are also introduced for private events in public places – they now must introduce a limit of a maximum of 100 people.

The measures will come into force from and including Tuesday next week.

New recommendations

The Municipality is also introducing a recommendation for people to reduce social contacts and to have a maximum of 30 people gathering in private homes.

Municipal chief medical officer Inger Hilde Trandem says that no end date has yet been set for the measures.

“The challenge for designing these measures is that they may have to last for a while because we have ongoing infection outbreak. We’re entering a winter season and have many elements that make us unsure when we can revoke the measures,” she says.

The Municipality tried to design the measures so that they are as least intrusive as possible but at the same time effective.
