Many fires reported all over the country on New Year’s Eve

The emergency services reported many fires in the first minutes after midnight New Year’s Eve. There have also been many disturbances across the country.

Police and fire departments in several parts of the country reported more heather and grass fires in the minutes after midnight, and it also burned in several hedges, garages, cars and homes.

In Hokksund and Fredrikstad fireworks set fires on hedges and in Kadettangen in Bærum the roofing of the tower was set on fire by fireworks.

In Os, a man was arrested and charged with starting a home fire. Bergens Tidene writes that Operations manager Knut Dahl Mikkelsen in the West police district says they suspect the man smashed a window on the house before firing fireworks into the living room.

No one was injured in the fire but, according to police, the residence is uninhabitable. Seven people were evacuated.

24 evacuated
In Bergen, 24 people were evacuated as a result of a fire in a detached house in Fyllingsdalen. According to NRK, four people were sent to the emergency room, but no one was seriously injured.

The state channel writes just after 6 o’clock that the fire service is struggling in a cramped and unmanageable residential area and that they have no control over the fire. The home is engulfed in flames.

Emergency rocket hit a holiday home
In Svolvær in Nordland, fire was reported as a result of an emergency rocket

.-The police had stopped on Svinøya to observe the fireworks in Svolvær and became aware of an emergency flare that was fired horizontally and wizzed past over their heads. The flare then hit a holiday home where the siding caught fire, police say.

Two men have been arrested as a result of the incident.

A house in Kyrkjebø in Sunnfjord caught fire just over 3 AM Wednesday. There were no people in the house, but the West police district reported the danger of spreading to nearby woods and animal corral, several horses were evacuated. In addition, neighboring houses were evacuated as the danger of spreading developed. The house where the fire began cannot be saved.

Had to stop partying
Western police district reported 20 minutes past midnight that they had been notified that a man in Åstveit in Åsane had sustained injuries to the face by fireworks.

Several parties with young people and minors went overboard and had to be disbanded by the police. In Tromsø, the police had to put an end among other things, to a party at the sailing association’s premises for the sake of health and safety for the 80 guests, many overbearing minors.

The Eastern Police District tells of many calls related to public disturbances in the city and in private homes.

– “It has been a very hectic night with disruptive behavior. Fortunately, there have been no cases of serious personal injury,” says operations manager Terje Marstad to NTB.
