Children and teenagers between the ages of 9 and 17 play more (18+) computer games than parents are aware of, a new survey from the Norwegian Media Authority shows.

In the survey entitled Parents and media 2020, half of the children between the ages of 9 and 17 answered that they played age-restricted (18+) games.

At the same time, eight out of ten parents answered that their children have never played such age-restricted games.

Six out of ten children and young people also answered that they have bought things with real money in the games, while six out of ten parents answered that this wasn’t the case.

“Parents should familiarize themselves with the games that children play, and talk to their children,” director Mari Velsand of the Norwegian Media Authority noted in a press release.
