Mayor Jenny Følling wants flight route between Førde and Bergen reinstated

Mayor Jenny Følling (SP) in Sunnfjord wants the Norwegian state to sponsor the route between Førde and Bergen again as an FOT route. She also believes that electric planes should be used on the stretch.

The Bergen route was closed in 2020 when the government decided to cut its support, the newspaper Bergensavisen writes.

“The route is crucial for companies and institutions in the area. Many people commute between Førde and Bergen, for example, people in the county municipality, the University College of Western Norway, and Helse Førde,” Følling said.

She is also the leader of the airport committee for Førde Airport, and the committee has issued a consultation statement in connection with the competition for regional flight routes from April 1, 2024.

“Now, there is a direct route from Bergen to Florø, Sandane, and Sogndal, so it is a ‘missing link’ that Førde, with so many government jobs, does not have it,” Følling stated.

She points out that most of the air traffic from 2030 will be emission-free and that there should be a requirement in the licensing framework to develop and test electric aircraft.
