Melby believes the Norwegian government is undermining the sanctions against Russia

Liberal Party (V) leader Guri Melby believes Norway must be stricter against Russia and criticizes the government for the exception in the port ban.

At the beginning of May, the docking ban against Russia entered into force. This means that Russian vessels are not allowed to dock at Norwegian ports as a result of the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

But unlike the EU, Norway has chosen to specify that all fishing vessels are exempt from the ban, which means that they can deliver fish and carry out crew changes.

Ukraine’s ambassador Vyacheslav Jatsiuk told NTB that this exception is a loophole that could help fund Russia’s war machinery.

Melby agrees.

“Sanctions must cost us a little too; otherwise, they do not have the effect we want. The fact that the government is undermining the sanctions to prevent the economic loss from becoming too great for us only contributes to financing Putin’s war machine even further. Norway should not stand for that,” Melby said.

  1. And where does the Liberal Party stand, regarding civil defense preparations for every man, woman, and child in Norway, if the government is going to play nuclear chicken with weapons shipments against nuclear superpower Russia like this?
Even America’s libertarians see national defense as the essential Duty of Federal government, and civil defense – for public safety – is a fundamental part of that.
Or does the Liberal Party (irresponsibly) think that civil defense should be do-it-yourself, even if families can’t create fallout shelters for themselves … to then stockpile?
