Norway has donated 22 M109 artillery weapons with equipment and spare parts, as well as ammunition, to Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense confirmed on Wednesday.

“The Ukrainian forces depend on Western support in the form of military equipment and weapons to withstand the Russian attacks. Ukraine has requested this type of arms support. The development of the war in Ukraine indicates that it is now necessary to donate heavier material and weapons systems as well,” Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram (SP) noted in a press release.

It is also stated in the press release that Norway has trained Ukrainian forces in the use of these weapons in Germany.

It has been speculated that Norway donated such weapons for a long time, and Russia claimed to have destroyed an M109 cannon donated from Norway earlier this week.
