12% more Norwegians took the driver’s license exam in 2021 compared to 2019. The increase is particularly high around the big cities.

“As an effect of the pandemic, we have seen that more people want a driver’s license and the freedom it means in the individual’s everyday life.

“We have noticed this particularly well around the larger cities, where public transport was reduced for a period of time,” section manager Trond Olsen in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

The waiting time for the driving test has also increased, from around ten weeks to around 16 weeks.
