In the last 24 hours, 101 new corona-infected people have been registered in Bergen Municipality. 44 infected people have an unknown route of transmission.

The day before, 49 new cases were registered. Bergen is struggling with high infection rates, which worries chief infection control officer Egil Bovim.

“The high numbers may be a result of the current infection numbers being based on tests taken over several days. In any case, we are worried about the situation, and we are now starting to see the consequences of the freshman week,” Bovim said.

He added that at least 31 cases of infection are related to the freshman week and that 34 of the cases are among young people between 20 and 22 years of age.

“We have a close dialogue with the universities about the situation,” Bovim noted.

A total of 3,199 people tested themselves for corona in Bergen on Monday. So far, 8,649 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus in the Municipality since the pandemic started.
