As many as 110,000 lightning strikes were registered over Scandinavia on Wednesday. In Norway, the number was well over 30,000.

The Meteorological Institute registered the final count during yesterday’s storm. The storm took place mainly in the Østafjells (areas east of the Langfjellene mountain range).

The high number of lightning strikes can be attributed to large cumulonimbus clouds, meteorologists wrote on Twitter.

On Wednesday, the storm caused power outages. According to the electricity supplier Elvia’s map, hundreds of households in Eastern Norway have lost power during the days.

“Lightning and thunder that are the cause of the power outages we see now. We have power outages in several places, from Trysil in the north to Moss and Fredrikstad in the south,” communications consultant Cecile Gregersen in Elvia told newspaper VG on Wednesday.
