More than 50 people have lost their lives on Norway’s roads so far this year

51 people have lost their lives in Norwegian roads in the first six months of this year. Around every 5 fatal accidents are with motorcycles, according to new statistics from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. 

45 men and 6 women have died in traffic in the first half year. 24 died in private cars while 9 fatal accidents were on motorcycles, according to the preliminary review of fatal accidents so far this year by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

There is a rise in accidents involving middle aged men between the ages 45-64.

-” At the beginning of summer, six of eight accidents in June were with motorcycles.” says Guro Ranes, Department Director at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. 

 Six of the fatal accidents on motorcycles were due to going off the road at a turn, and in many of these accidents many were driving together.

Out of all fatal accidents, it is Vestfold and Telemark who are the hardest hit compared to last year with 11 dead. This is five more than the same period last year. Viken is the county with the most dead – 13.
