Assistant health director Espen Rostrup Nakstad encourages Norwegians who are traveling home for Christmas to travel early and not postpone the trip until Christmas Eve.

“The best thing is to plan early and not travel on Christmas Eve… It is wise to travel early if you can,” Nakstad told the newspaper VG.

In recent weeks, corona infection rates in Norway have soared. In the last 24 hours, 6,003 corona cases have been registered in the country.

Despite the high level of infection, Nakstad believes that people can use trains, buses, and planes when they travel home for Christmas, as long as they take certain precautions.

“You should use a face mask if it’s crowded. That’s mandatory throughout Norway.”

He also asked people to limit the number of their close contacts at Christmas and postpone the trip if they are ill.
