In the last 24 hours, 367 new corona-infected people have been registered in Oslo. That is 74 more than the same day the previous week – and a new record.

It is also 132 more than the average of the previous 14 days, which was 235 infected per day, and 87 more than the average of the last seven days. On the same day of last week, 293 cases of infection were registered.

According to the Municipality’s figures, this is the highest daily figure registered, news bureau NTB writes.

Third wave of infection

Oslo’s Deputy Vice Mayor for Health Robert Steen (AP) said that there is no doubt that Oslo is in the third infection wave.

He called the situation serious.

“We have never been close to registering such a high level of infection as we have recently. Although we have had very strict measures in Oslo for a long time, the infection has more than quadrupled since the beginning of February,” Steen told NTB.

“There is a strong increase in the number of people who become so ill that they are hospitalized, and they are younger than before. In addition, we now know that many young people also experience the late effects of coronavirus.

“That is the reason why we introduced new, strict measures in the city last night, with a ban on more than two visitors in private homes and stricter measures in schools. We must do everything we can to kill the virus, as we have done in the past,” he added.

Rising trend

The infection is now highest in the districts of Stovner and Grorud. Stovner has had 1242.6 new cases for every 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks. Grorud had 1122.5. In the district of Ullern, this number is 225.6.

In the Nordstrand district, the infection rate is the lowest, with 221.1 infected per 100,000 inhabitants.

The infection trend is rising, according to the overview of Oslo Municipality. As of Wednesday, new and stricter measures will be introduced in the capital. Among other things, it will be forbidden to have more than two visitors in private homes.

A total of 23,787 Oslo citizens have been registered as infected since March of last year.
