Almost half of those who lost their lives in car accidents in Norway last year did not use seat belts or used the belts incorrectly, new figures from the police show.

47% of the 89 people who died in car accidents in 2020 did not wear seat belts or used them incorrectly.

Over the past nine years, this has been the case for 35% of all cases where people died in a car, a new police analysis of traffic safety shows.

Acting chief of the Central Mobile Police Service, Roar Skjelbred Larsen, told P4 that many fatal accidents involving people who didn’t wear seat belts are related to intoxication.
