New snow in the mountains of southern Norway

In the high mountains of southern Norway there are storms and snow.The Norwegian Public Roads Administration advised people not to drive over Sognefjellet with summer tires.

 

But there are snowy and slippery driving conditions on county road 55 above Sognefjellet, the road traffic authorities indicated on Tuesday morning.

There are also reports of new snow on Valdresflya and other peaks in the high mountains. In the mountains there is a snow limit of 1,400-1,800 metres said state meteorologist ,Hanne Beate Skattør to Gudbrandsdølen Dagningen newspaper.

“It’s not unnatural for snow to reach the peaks. There have been freezing temperatures at night. Sognefjellshytta iss now minus by a half degree.Juvasshø is at minus three, she said.

The snow is falling two days before the lightest and longest day of the year.

Thursday is the night of the summer solstice.
