More and more people believe that corona infection figures in Norway will increase. 68% of respondents expect the infection to increase in the time ahead, and 45% believe that the infection control measures will be relaxed too quickly.

At the same time, 17% of those surveyed believe the infection will decrease, while 16% believe the infection will remain at the same level, figures from the Norwegian Corona Monitor poll from Opinion show.

“People’s expectations for an increase in infection have simply skyrocketed. This has been a clear trend for several months in a row,” senior adviser Nora Clausen in Opinion stated.

The September share was 11% above August, while August’s share was 11% above July, which was, in turn, 19% above June.

Reopening moving too fast?

At the same time, almost every second Norwegian, 45%, still thinks that the reopening of Norwegian society is going too fast. However, just as many believe that it is happening at an appropriate pace. Only 9% think it is progressing too slowly.

“We would have to go all the way back to August last year to find higher measurements of the proportion of Norwegians who think that the reopening pace is going too fast,” Clausen said.

Just over a quarter, 26%, support stricter infection control measures in their home municipality, while 11% think the measures should be relaxed. The majority say they are satisfied with the current level of measures.
