A man in his 20s has been sentenced in North Troms and Senja District Court to four years in prison for raping a woman who was sleeping.

The unanimous verdict was handed down on Friday last week. The incident happened on Sunday, September 6, last year. The woman had returned home from a party after feeling unwell. The man, who knew the woman well, came to help her get to bed, according to the verdict.

The two then fell asleep in the woman’s bed, both very drunk, according to the verdict. The woman woke up early the following day after the man had intercourse with her, NTB writes.

He was then asked to go home, and he left her apartment. In court, the man explained that he did not remember anything. The woman explained to the court that she suffered a lot in the aftermath of what happened.

The man, who denied criminal guilt in court, was also sentenced to pay the woman NOK 150,000 in reparation.
