A man in his 30s in Northern Norway has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a double-digit number of sleep rapes over a number of years.

Helgeland District Court ruled that the man raped his then cohabitant repeatedly from 2011 to 2018.

He was also convicted of raping another woman on two occasions in 2019.

“Several dozen sleep rapes of aggrieved A were carried out, and two sleep rapes of aggrieved B. Due to the defendants’ actions, the aggrieved needed trauma treatment/psychologist,” acting district court judge Mathias Emil Hager wrote in the verdict.

The punishment is in accordance with the plaintiff’s claim. The man did not plead guilty.

The man must also pay NOK 175,000 in restitution to each of the women.
