A total of 79 Nortura employees in Steinkjer and 68 in Stavanger will lose their jobs. They will be offered a new job, but only if they move.

The background for the dismissals is a proposal from the company’s group management to close down the departments for pig cutting in Steinkjer and Stavanger in favor of a new and modernized factory in Tønsberg, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reports.

The new part of the factory in Tønsberg is scheduled to be completed after the summer of 2023. After that, the pig cutting activity in Steinkjer and Forus will be gradually reduced.

The slaughterhouse operations at the two plants will not be affected, according to Nortura.

NRK has previously been informed that the employees in Steinkjer and Stavanger will be offered jobs in Tønsberg.
