“This shows that it is a serious illness and that in some cases, it may be contracted due to mistakes in the health service. And then the service is liable for compensation,” Minister of Health Bent Høie (H) told P4.

In total, compensation has been requested in 216 cases where people contracted the coronavirus as patients. The average age of those infected is 84 years, and only ten survived the disease. A total of 178 of them were under municipal care, most of them in nursing homes, while 36 were patients in hospitals.

A total of 153 applicants have been granted compensation, 48 are waiting for a decision, and 15 have been rejected.
